Verna Fay Baxter Obituary
(Age 95) Passed into the presence of her Lord on August 25 in Diamond Bar, California, after a short illness. Fay was born in Fairfield, Idaho, June 20, 1915, but moved to the Spokane Valley area shortly after her birth where she lived until 2005 with the exception of the WWII years when she and husband, Alvin Baxter, were stationed in Colorado. After the war, she lived in Rangely, Colorado, for three years. Fay, who's maiden name was Verna Fay Vandiver, graduated from Central Valley High School in 1933. She married the same year and celebrated her 69th wedding anniversary just prior to her husband's death in 2002. She was a licensed beautician, and owned her own shop while in Rangely. Returning to Spokane in 1949, she soon began attending the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church where she worshiped until 2005 when she moved to Southern California to be close to her family. During her time at the Alliance church she volunteered in a variety of ministries including teaching toddlers, Vacation Bible School and leading Pioneer Girls. She also served as custodian for a number of years. She loved gardening, baking and canning the many fruits and vegetables she raised. Later in life she enjoyed playing games and became known as a shrewd Skip-Bo player. She was a talented seamstress who loved to make clothes for herself, her family and others. Her handmade creations are enjoyed by many generations of loved ones. She is remembered as a good friend to many as well as for her sense-of-humor, patience, kind spirit, appreciation for others and most of all her faith in her Lord Jesus. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Joy Baxter; grandchildren, Alison Baxter, Alissa Roseli and her husband, Phil Roseli, and Sarah Baxter; great-grandchildren, Felica Baxter, Anthony Castenada and Xander Roseli and former daughter-in-law, Susanne Baxter, all of Southern California; brother, Leon Vandiver, of Puyallup, WA, and sister-in-law, Pat Vandiver, of Spokane; as well as many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 2nd, at 2:00 PM at the Garland Avenue Alliance Church.
