Verne L. Harr Obituary
Verne was born June 5, 1922 on the family farm near Cheney, WA. He was the youngest of three children born to Maude and Roy Harr both of whom preceded him in death. His work ethic, mechanical and carpentry skills were nurtured as a farm boy and culminated in his abilities to build and assemble magnificent pieces for his grandchildren and their children. Credit his dad for those skills and his mother for his kind heart and gentle soul. Upon graduation from Cheney High School, Verne volunteered for service and then spent most of WWII as an Army Medic. Returning home he worked in various construction positions before what became a 35 year career with Kaiser Aluminum, Mead Works. Notable during a very successful career was the time he and his wife spent in Ghana, Africa with Valco Aluminum which afforded them the opportunity to travel extensively throughout Europe. As retirement years approached, Mom and Verne became accomplished motor homers and ultimately spent many winters South with friends from the Mead plant. Verne was a devoted and happily married husband for 63 years to Alice, who remains at the home which has provided care for them the past two years. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents, were sisters Doris Lawrence and Bernice Hathaway, son Dennis Harr, grandson Mark Lewis and great-granddaughter Rikki Marie. Verne was stepfather to Carole Rohweder and Jack Rountree, grandfather to Amy, Kati, Jim, Tim, Colleen and James and eleven great-grandchildren.
