Vernon Willard Ohland Obituary
Vernon W. Ohland, age 92, passed away in Spokane, WA on April 10, 2011. He was born on November 25, 1918 in Spokane, WA to Otto and Cereath Ohland. Vern graduated from North Central High School in 1936. Following high school, he joined the Air Force in 1941 where he would serve in WWII as a tail gunner on a B-26 Marauder seeing action in Germany, Africa and Europe. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Silver Star and the Air Medal. In 1946, he married Geraldine (Jeri) Wagner and together they would share 62 years of marriage. The same year he started his career with Spokane County, serving as Spokane County Auditor from 1967 to 1982. He was heavily involved with community organizations such as the Elks, Masonic Lodge, Lions Club and American Legion. Vern enjoyed restoring old cars with all his sons and grandsons. Summers were spent at Loon Lake. He will be missed by all who knew him and those who loved him. Vern is survived by three sons, Greg (Gail) Ohland, Kent (Sharon) Ohland, Kevin (Terry) Ohland, four grandsons, Shawn Ohland, Todd Ohland, Kyle Ohland, and Corey Ohland, great-grandson Kameron Scott Ohland, and his four legged friend, Missy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeri, parents, brother Willard Ohland, step-mother Grace Ohland, and his daughter Gretchen in 1955. A graveside service with military honors will be held at Greenwood Memorial Terrace, 211 N. Government Way in Spokane, WA on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 2 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner?s Children?s Hospital or Disabled American Veterans.
