A memorial service will be held Friday, October 23, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Liberty Park United Methodist Church, Spokane, Washington with Rev. Barbara Caviezel officiating. Vetta Alvira Mix Dahman beloved wife, mother, grandmother, ("GI GI") great grandmother, aunt and devoted Christian, went peacefully to be with her Lord on Saturday October 10, 2009. She was born on November 11, 1923 in Hay Springs, Nebraska to Floyd Maxim Mix and Minnie Jorgensen Mix. She spent her early years in Hay Springs, then for a short time in Port Orchard, Washington. In 1942, Vetta graduated from Hay Springs High School, and during WWII she worked in Omaha, Nebraska making transistors for the war effort, qualifying her as one of "America's Greatest Generation". Following the war in 1946, she married her sweetheart, Harold Joel Dahman, and they settled in Spokane, Washington. Vetta was a talented, creative wife and mother, who loved to sew, knit, quilt, crochet and paint. Mrs. Vetta also enjoyed cooking, gardening, and many crafts. These were all greatly valued and appreciated by her family, friends, and church family. For over 50 years Vetta was a member of Liberty Park United Methodist Church in Spokane where she was active as a Sunday school teacher, board member, and member of the Women's Society. Each year in November she and the other UMW members would put on the "Church Bazaar", known as one of the best in Spokane for its beautiful hand crafted items, which Vetta and others worked on all year. She was a friend to everyone and always had a beautiful smile and a sparkle in her eyes. After the death of her husband, Vetta moved to Shreveport, LA to live with her daughter to help rock and spoil her six great grandchildren who fondly called her "Gi Gi". Vetta was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Tom Mix, and her husband of 59 years, Harold "Joe" Dahman. Left to cherish her memory and tell her stories will be her sisters, Maxine Bodey, Adabel Lundy and husband Alvin; brother Francis Mix and wife Carole, her daughter Jolene and husband Antoine Treadaway; son Ralph Dahman and Debbie Taggart; four grandchildren Tara Philips, Kayla Bigelow and husband Brandon, Niki Cahill and husband Jeff, Justin Dahman and wife Jessica; six great-grandchildren Cody Phillips, Colton and Michael Ellison, Jolie Blair and James Brenton Bigelow, and Owen Cahill; as well as many nieces and nephews and special friends Sherry and Ernie Donlan. "Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for a while, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never ever the same." Many thanks to the special care givers, sitters, hospice staff, friends, and support people who helped make Vetta's four years in Shreveport such a blessing to her and a perfect end to a life well lived. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Mom- Thanks for the love and memories
