Victor Earl Castleberry Obituary (Age 88) Victor Earl Castleberry lived a full life of 88 years, and was loved by many. He passed peacefully at home in Spokane, surrounded by the ones he loved on September 14, 2017. Victor was born in Shamrock Texas to Herman and Nancy Castleberry on December 30, 1929. He was preceded in death by his brother Paul Castleberry and sister Ruth Crow. He grew up during the Great Depression and Great American Dust Bowl in Dalhart Texas, which forged him into the man that he was. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from University of Texas Galveston Medical Branch in 1955. He served in the Reserve Corp of the US Public Health Service for one year, 1957 to 1958. Vic was an accomplished and well respected cardiologist at Spokanes Rockwood Clinic from 1960-1990. Vic was married to Peggy Calvert from 1954 to 1968. They had five children: Debra, Leslie, Vicki (Signer), James and Jeffrey, of whom Debra and James have passed. In 1968, Vic married Robbi Gandini and they were together until 2013 when Robbi passed away. Vic was grand-father to ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, with one great grandchild on the way. Vic was a champion for environmental action. He firmly believed in protecting our waterways and aquifers. He played a major role in protecting the Palisades Parks, Rim Rock, and the Indian Canyon Park. He loved to canoe and was a founder of the Spokane River Canoe Classic. Vic and Robbis garden was always top notch and they yearly made wine the old Italian way. Vic cross-country and alpine skied, and was on the mountain into his 80's. From a young age he had a love for horses. He enjoyed working with ranchers and was a true cowboy at heart. His love for adventure lead him to distant trail rides, Montana cattle roundups, fishing with friends, white-water canoeing and traveling abroad. Vic lived life passionately, with an open mind and an open heart, ready for anything and everything. You are invited to join Vics family in celebrating his memory on Friday, October 6th.
