Wanda Byrninia Thompson

Wanda Byrninia Thompson Obituary (Age 95) Wanda Byrninia (Sturm) Thompson, was born in Leonard, Minnesota on January 12, 1923. Her parents were Darrell Graydon Sturm and Ida Teresa Holquist. Darrell Sturm was a World War I U.S. Veteran who won the Purple Heart for bravery. Wanda was his only child, and he loved her very much. Wanda's mother, Ida (Isackson) Sturm Holquist, emigrated from Sweden to America in 1903 with her parents Johann and Anna Isackson and siblings. The Isacksons first landed in Leonard Minnesota, via a sleigh ride. Anna Isackson taught young Wanda the Swedish language and culture. A young Norwegian man from Clearbrook, Lloyd Thompson, married Wanda in 1941. During World War II, they worked at the Bay area shipyards. Their first child, Marlene, was born in California. In Spokane, daughter, Sharon and son, David were born and the family home construction business began in the 1950's. Wanda and Lloyd attended the Hillyard Church of God and Shiloh Hills Fellowship. Wanda was an active member of Swedish language group. In 1985 Lloyd and Wanda visited Sweden and Norway. On March 6, 2018, Wanda Byrninia Thompson passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior. Wanda is survived by her three children, Marlene Slider, Sharon Thompson and David Thompson; six grandchildren: Jeff Skaife, Eric Slider, Janelle Bye, Ben, Nathaniel and Shawndra Thompson; nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews; her siblings, Shirley Drury and Larry Holquist of Spokane and Norma Carroll of Hollywood, California. A memorial service for friends and family will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Shiloh Hills Fellowship at 207 E. Lincoln Road, Spokane.
