William David "Bill" Lindley

May 28, 1944 - March 25, 2011

William David "Bill" Lindley Obituary (Age 66) Bill was born in Oceanside, CA to David and Jeannette Lindley May 28, 1944. He passed away in Spokane, WA March 25, 2011 after a relentless 26 year battle with renal disease. Bill grew up in Spokane and graduated from Shadle Park High School in 1962. He was offered a full scholarship to Gonzaga University where he attended for a short time before his band the Satin Brass hit the road moving to the west side of the state where he moonlighted as a musician and worked as an assistant manager for Woolworth. Upon his return to the Spokane area, Bill joined the police force where he served as a deputy sheriff until he took the post as Deer Park Chief of Police. After his work on the police force, he changed careers and worked as a general contractor and business owner for most of the rest of his life. Bill's final building project was the beautiful home he and his wife Sally shared on Silver Lake. Bill had a passion for life, a brilliant mind, sharp wit and a great love for family. His interests were numerous and varied, including a love of jazz and big band music, sports, auto racing, aviation, history, classic western movies, construction, carpentry and anything mechanical. Some of Bill's favorite activities were golfing, swimming, boating, camping, watching sports and movies, building airplane models, and rooting for his beloved Seattle Seahawks. Bill was accomplished at anything he endeavored to do, and had knowledge of a seemingly infinite range of subjects. As a gifted musician, Bill played for the Spokane Symphony and taught music, with one of his life's highlights being when he met and played trumpet with Doc Severinsen. In Bill's later years, he was happiest in the outdoors, especially when camping at Priest Lake with his children and grandchildren and spending time with family and friends. For those that knew him best, Bill will be remembered for his humorous yet honest personality, ethical nature, incredible will and strength of mind. These qualities made Bill a stabilizing force to the people in his life. Above all else, Bill was a man of character who fought to live until the very end, proclaiming in his final days "I am not a quitter!", and he didn't. Bill is survived by his wife of 10 years Sally Mayer, Medical Lake, WA; his children Kyle and Mary Doran of Wesport, WA, Jodi and Rob Herman, Indonesia, Eric and Marcie Lindley of Seattle, WA and Brian and Vera Lindley of Seattle, WA.; Sisters, Julia and Larry Corbin, Merced, CA, and Lynn and Mike Campbell, Spokane, WA; His beloved grandchildren, Hollie, Kalyn, Amelia, Kelsey, Kohl, Jacob and Lucas; and seven step-grandchildren, Alex/Autumn, Shayla, Andrew, Teddy, Dakota, Sarah, and Seth.
