William F. Dowd Obituary William F. Dowd was born April 2, 1926 to Alva and Frances Dowd in Corning, Iowa, and passed away July 14, 2009 in Spokane, Washington. The Dowd family moved to Colorado where Bill "cowboyed" on various ranches. In listening to his stories, these were the favorite years of his life, of which he has written many pieces of poetry. The family later moved to Weippe, Idaho where they ran a sawmill. Bill ran a pack string to pack in hunters and fishermen in the Kooskia area. Bill moved to Spokane in 1956 where he worked for Redding Construction. He enjoyed operating cranes and other heavy equipment. One of his favorite construction stories revolved around helping build the Expo in Spokane. Bill is survived by his son Douglas E. Dowd and his wife Debbie of British Columbia and numerous nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. Viewing will be from 12-5pm Friday and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, 508 N. Government Way, Spokane. The graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. at Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 W. Wellesley, Spokane.
