William J. Moldovan Obituary (Age 84) Passed away October 26, 2009 at the Spokane Veterans' Home in Spokane, Washington. He was born March 12, 1923, in Halcottsville, New York. The youngest son of Andrew and Mary Moldovan. Raised on a dairy farm in Delaware County where he lived until he joined the U. S. Army Air Force. Joe's military and civil service spanned 32 years including tours of duty in Iceland, Puerto Rico, and Southeast Asia. He retired in 1969 as a Chief Master Sergeant with the Bronze Star in addition to many other awards. He graduated from Whitworth College in 1969 with his B.A. and completed his Masters of Extension at Washington State University, 1974. He was a Quality Control Engineer for the Bechtel Engineering Corporation and worked on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline for two years in civil and environmental engineering. In September 1976, he accepted a position with Washington State University as a Program Assistant in the Limited Resource Farming Program and became an Area Extension Agent in 1979. In 1982, Joe became the Dairy Extension Agent until he retired in 1988. His resourcefulness, knowledge and competence were well known among hundreds of clients in Spokane, Stevens, Pend Oreille and northern Idaho counties. While well versed in all facets of agriculture his greatest love was dairying. He was innovative and took immense pride in doing high quality work. Above all else, he showed great compassion for his family, parents, friends and those less fortunate in life. He was recognized for his loving personality, willingness to share, and forgiving heart. Joe was a member of the Spokane Area Chamber of Commerce and the Agricultural Bureau; active in the Forum and Ag Expo Programs; in addition to Scouting and civic activities. Member of Epsilon Sigma Phi, National Association of County Agricultural Agents, Eagle Aerie #2, and Assumption Parish. He is survived by three sisters: Anne in Halcottsville, NY; Mary Maliszewski in Enfield, CT, and Frances Wood in Laoudenville, NY and numerous nieces and nephews. His wife Lottie prececed him him death. Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, November 5th at the Heritage Funeral Home on Government Way with interment following immediately. In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made in his name to the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery, 1004 E. 8th Ave., Spokane, WA 99202.
