William L. "Bill" Carter

William L. "Bill" Carter Obituary (Age 83) Bill passed away on November 6, 2014. He was born on March 16, 1931 in Keytesville, MO to Charles and Irene Carter. Bill graduated from Keytesville High School in 1949. Following graduation he attended the University of Missouri from 1949 to 1951. Bill enlisted in the United States Army in January of 1951 and throughout his career did tours in Korea, Vietnam, West Germany, Turkey and numerous posts in the U.S. In January of 1954, Bill married the love of his life, Adeline Smith. On November 30, 1973 he retired from the Army with a rank of Sgt. Major. Following his career in the Army he moved to Spokane, working for the Spokane County Engineers from 1974 to 1986. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing and just spending time outdoors. He especially enjoyed the time spent at the family's property near Cusick, WA, known as "Carter Country" by friends and family. He was a lifetime member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation as well as a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1435, Disabled American Veterans, and the NRA. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Adeline Carter, and grandchildren Matt and Christie Hatcher. He is survived by his children Cheryl (Jim) Williams of Cassville, MO, Catherine (Don) Hatcher of Tuscon, AZ and William Stephen (June) Carter of Spokane, WA; grandchildren: Brooke, Rachel, Stephanie and Scott and great-grandchildren Zachary, Colton, Avery and Carter. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at 11:00AM at the Sunset Chapel inside Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 W. Wellesley Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans Post 1435, 212 S. David Street, Spokane, WA 99212.
