October 11, 1925 - August 24, 2012

Wilma Metier Obituary (Age 86) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wilma Metier on August 24, 2012, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. An angel came and took her hand and said her place was ready in Heaven up above. She would have to leave behind all those she dearly loved. Thoughts of all the yesterdays and all the good times we shared with loved ones will long be remembered. As the days pass into years don't think we are apart, for every time you think of me, I will be there in your heart. At the age of 86 her passing was as graceful and loving as was her life. Wilma was born in Clyde Park, MT on October 11, 1925. She was the second born of five children to William and Cora Carroll. She is survived by her children Sheila (Leon) Brown of Deer Park, WA, Earl (Terry) Metier of Wasilla, AK, and Robyn (Art) Bews of Priest River, ID; a sister Joyce Magers of Spokane; six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers William, Eugene and Jack and a half-brother Charles McCammon. She grew up and received her education in Wilsall, MT. After graduation from Wilsall High School in 1944 she attended Dillon Normal Teachers College and obtained her teachers certificate. She had a passion for teaching and taught in a rural one room school house for three years and in the school system at Wilsall. She married Tom Metier October 25, 1947 and later divorced in 1968. She moved to Spokane in the winter of 1967 and worked for Pre Vocational Training Center as Supervisor, Sacred Heart Medical Center in the cafeteria, and later managed the GreenTree Apartments on W. Francis for 18 years before moving to Deer Park to live with her daughter. In December, 2010, Wilma began residing at Avalon Care Center at Northpointe in Spokane until her death. The center of Wilma's life was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Wilma was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a true friend. Her greatest joy was enjoying her family and friends. Before she was an angel in heaven she was an angel that walked on earth and will always be remembered in our hearts. Not a day will go by that we will not miss her happy smile, her sense of humor and the joy and love she gave to each of us. She has left us with a legacy of beauty and dignity that will live in our lives and hearts forever. She is gone but will always be in our thoughts and our hearts. We will miss her love, but are thankful for the wonderful memories and blessings she gave to each of us. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Wilma's name to: Chewelah Baptist Church, PO Box 315, Chewelah, WA 99109. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 31, 2012 at 11:00 am at Heritage Funeral Home. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Wilma, please visit our Tree Store.
